My three year old, Asher, loves to play red light. At random times he will just yell out “Dad, red light. Stop!” I have to stop until he has given me the green light to go again. I think God does the same thing. It is easy for our lives to always have a green light and to over do it. I think we should take a moment today to hear God say “red light.”

2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.

Genesis 2:2-3

God didn’t reset because He was tired. God rest because He demonstrated what He wants us to do. I think if the devil can’t make you bad, he will make you busy. Sometime we are so busy being busy that nothing productive is actually being done. So how can we recognize the red light? Try the 7-7-7 principal:

Every 7 Days

Take a day off and rest. God did it, so should we. Do something that makes you feel alive. Ask yourself, what am I doing when I feel the most alive?

Every 7 Weeks

Every 7 weeks get away. Take a day trip. Visit a neighboring town. Just get a change of scenery. It doesn't have to be big, just change it up a bit.

Every 7 Months

Take a trip. It doesn't have to be Paris, but it should include packing backs and leaving. You need time away from the norm. Time to relax and recharge. Put it on the calendar and make it a priority.

My mom always told me that “can’t never could.” What does that mean? It means that you never will as long as there are excuses. So today, hear the Lord say “red light.” Take a moment and stop.
