As a kid the hardest thing in the world for me to do was to be still. I can still hear my mom telling me over and over, “Brandon be still!” However, it’s even harder to be still in the midst of trouble in your life.
When things happen in my life I want to react. I’m not the type of person that wants to sit idly by and wait, I want to take action. If it is broke I want to fix it. But what do you do when YOU can’t “fix” it? What do you do when it is bigger than yourself? What do you do when it is bigger than those around you? What do you do when your very next word, your very next action, or your very next decision could be the most important in your life? The answer, is to be still and know He is God.
Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God. What a statement! It’s one thing to know or to quote that verse, but it’s another to live that verse. When you can’t fix it it is important to be still and know He is God. When it is bigger than yourself be still and know He is God. When it is bigger than those around be still and know He is God. When your next word, action, or decision could be the most important, be still and know He is God.
Rushing leads to mistakes. Acting on emotion, impulse, influence, feelings, circumstances, or even justification without being directed by God is the wrong thing to do. As easy as it is to make decisions on our circumstances or the way we feel, we must be still. Even though it seems as if God has let us down and He has allowed undeserved hurt, we need to remember He is God.
So as of today, be very still. Be still so that God can direct you as apposed to all the other things that could be. Even though you want to act and react to the things around you, I am reminding you to be still and remember that He is God. He loves you, cares for you, and that ALL things will work for your good because you love the Lord (Romans 8:28).
