You’ve seen it in the movies. The person seemed sincere. A relationship was formed. And then out of nowhere they were speeding off yelling “so long suckers.”
We all experience this in life, but as a pastor for the last 17 years it’s amplified. I couldn’t begin to count the number of people who have walked into my life, built relationship, and then vanished without as much as a goodbye. If you truly love people it never stops hurting no matter how many times it happens.
However, I’m reminded of John 6:66 that says “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.”
Jesus experienced the same thing. Jesus knew what it was to have people come and go, yet he always continued on.
Encourage yourself today. Take a step back from the hurt directly in front of you and see the big picture. In the middle of all the hurt there is a lot of good. Thankfully Jesus was able to stick it out with those closest to Him, and you can do the same.
Stay focused on why you do what you do
Stay focused on those who have been through thick and thin with you
Stay focused on the good God is doing through your ministry
Have you been impacted by those who walk away? How do you stay focused and energized to continue?
